Launched in 1973, the Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) showcases top local and international artists from various disciplines in the performing arts from music, dance, theater, opera, and more. The 53rd HKAF will run from February 16 to March 30, 2025 and will feature a variety of shows to suit all tastes and audiences.
Highlights from Hong Kong Arts Festival 2025
- Wuthering Heights: Suitable for ages 12 and above, Wuthering Heights by Emma Rice is a bold and inventive reimagining of Emily Brontë’s classic tale of love, revenge, and redemption. Featuring live music, comedy, puppetry, dance, and projections, this dynamic production by the National Theatre and Wise Children runs from 26–29 March 2025 at the HKAPA Lyric Theatre.
- Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna (Family Choice): A series of concerts featuring this renowned Italian orchestra, conducted by Maestro Donato Renzetti. The performances include a family-friendly concert centered around Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite,” making it an excellent introduction to classical music for children. Taking place on February 28 – March 1, 2025, at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
- Cristiana Morganti—Jessica and Me: A unique solo dance performance by Cristiana Morganti, a former dancer with Pina Bausch’s company. This show combines dance and dialogue, offering insights into a dancer’s life and career. While not specifically labeled as family-friendly, it could be engaging for older children and teens interested in contemporary dance. Scheduled for March 8-9, 2025, at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall.
- Li Biao and The Philharmonic Percussion Group of Berlin (Family Choice): A percussion-focused performance featuring Li Biao and the acclaimed Philharmonic Percussion Group of Berlin. This event is likely to showcase a variety of percussion instruments and rhythms, making it an engaging and interactive experience for audiences of all ages.
